HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY

The main building of the farm, again because of its strategic location, was built with function for the change of horses (coaching inn) in the seventeenth century along the major roadway of the Tiburtina Valeria, requiring every now and then stop for travelers in places of rest and refreshments. More or less as it happens in our days with the new rural tourism destination as a refugee and “relief” from the stresses of modern life.
Later it became a farmhouse (in the 1.800 primarily as a cattle farm) and, during Fascism, it was enlarged with a silos – where it was stored and fermented hay (now transformed in the “Tower” apartment) – and of a stable for cows (now the “Tavernetta” apartment) in order to support the imperative of the time: “autarky” (skill necessary to overcome the trade isolation caused by the war). Shortly after a second house was built where, at the ground floor (today apartments “Silos” and “Canale”), there was the cellar for the preparation and storage of wine, in the 1.970/80 the main activities of the farm. After many medals and awards for its excellent wines and great olive oils, modern “un-culture” of feeding and cruel rules of large retailers, helped by “ignorant …” agricultural policies of the government, have made this activity lifeless and have imposed a new conversion: the farmstay !

For over thirty years we have managed this farmstay with care, probably the first in Abruzzo region, and we turned our structures, once used for productive activities, in reception points for tourists, always with the desire not to upset the nature and the identity of campaign (country). Many efforts have been spent, in fact, to restructure, modernize, create services, maintaining that authenticity of the rural landscape, in virtue of which, we believe, the farm is a unique in the tourist receptive field.
Most of the furniture objects are original pieces of my family, giving even more thick authentic history of the house and the atmosphere you breathe.
The old structure of the seventeenth century was later “altered” in the nineteenth century, with the addition of a further stair that ended in an arcade embellished with “Moorish”-style arches (those which mostly appear in our photos). It ‘goes without saying that in Abruzzo such architectural “frills” were not intrinsic and typical in a region very “austere” and “concrete”, featuring thousands of years of hard transhumance and mere agricultural production, while other regions gained and became more and more “bourgeois” and refined due to trade in such our products. At that time the prevailing eclecticism and the desire to imitate “exotic” architectural styles had brought my ancestors to dare and to “cross over” into something special, perhaps to dream “new social membership.”

The fate of the men in the region for nearly eight centuries is called Abruzzo was decided mainly by the mountains
…… the people of Abruzzo are still narrow in a very unique community of fate, characterized by a tenacious loyalty to their economic and social forms beyond any practical use, which would be inexplicable if not taken into account that the constant factor of their existence is precisely the most primitive and stable elements: nature”.
